How many years have you worked as an artist?
I have been involved in arts from around 25 years.

Where is your Studio?
I have my own studio in suburb of delhi.

What themes do you pursue?
I love painting Nature and Radha, Krishna on canvas the most. However, I also enjoy exploring different themes to fulfil my passion towards painting.

What was the best advice given to you as an artist?
The best advice that I have received till date is to focus on the work. It has helped me improve and find new dimensions in my work. The clarity comes with focus and the more clearer you are in your thoughts, the more expressive you are on the canvas.

Favourite contemporary and western artist?
My college professors B.N.Arya and Satish Chandra are my favourite contemporary Indian artists. The western artist whom I admire the most is Micheal Anglow. They inspire me to excel in my work.

What has been the most important influence in your art and what did you learn from that situation or person ?
I have been influenced by my professors and my colleagues. Their criticism has been instrumental in achieving the depth in my work.

How important is formal art training ?( doing BFA , MFA)
According to me formal training is must for basic knowledge. It helps you understand your strengths and your weaknesses. In addition to this, formal training refines you as an artist. It also helps in understanding the artist inside you which further helps you in expressing yourself while painting.

What medium do u use and why ? ( charcoal, acrylic , oil , pencil etc)
I like working in different mediums. They all have different effects to capture different moods and expressions.

What motivates you?
I am motivated by peace. I feel it drives me to express my emotions on canvas and the tranquillity creates a void that I can fill with my imagination.

What advise can you give to beginning artists?
Since the best advice I have received till date is to focus on the work. I would like to share the same advice with the budding artists. They should concentrate on the work rather than money. The focus will drive excellence that will attract art lovers who have spent millions for their passion.

What do you like doing when you are not painting?
I love all forms of art. When I am not painting, I like watching movies and listening to music.

What are you working on now, and what are your plans for the future?
At present I am working on panel work of krishna. I am inspired by his intellectual, his romantic liaisons and his wisdom. I wish to explore more avenues where I can exhibit my work. I cannot think my life without art and I will continue to paint all my life.

What obstacles do you face in making and exhibiting your work?
Managing logistics is the toughest part to handle while exhibiting at different locations. Sometimes, your best piece gets spoiled due to poor handling of the frames and paintings.

What is your average day like?
My daily routine varies according to my workload. I try to keep a balance between my work life and personal life.
|

|
|
How did you sell your first painting and how did it feel?
I sold my first painting to Lalit Kala Academy in Lucknow. I felt great because the academy is renowned and I felt privileged that they liked my work.
